Can you establish boundaries as an expression of love?
Perhaps surprisingly, creating healthy boundaries is a common problem. Many of us find it difficult to establish healthy boundaries as it seems to contradict the concept of unconditional love. According to Kabbalah, setting healthy boundaries is associated with the sphere Gevurah. Gevurah means strength ﹘ the strength to set limits. Furthermore, on the Tree, Gevurah is located on the opposite side of the sphere, Chesed, the sefirah or sphere of loving kindness. Together, the two sephirot share the common ground of love﹘chesed as unbounded love, Gevurah as bounded love. In other words, Gevurah represents the need to express love by saying, “no.” Simply put, setting healthy boundaries is another form of expressing love.
