How To Find Your Life Purpose

Before we can talk about finding your purpose, let’s look at the difference between an occupation and a vocation. A vocation — from the Latin vocātiō, meaning “a call or summons” — is a call from the depth of your being, your primary aim in this life. Your vocation satisfies you on all levels: mentally, emotionally and physically. At times your vocation and occupation may overlap, but for most people their occupation is simply a 9-to-5 job.

You deserve to live a life where you are the priority, and your natural gifts and talents are fully expressed. People mistakenly assume that when you are aligned with your life purpose it requires less work — but the opposite is true. Your vocation requires even more work, but it will feel effortless and profoundly rewarding.

Your vocation urges you to have a meaningful relationship with your soul.

There is no room for excuses or self-sabotaging habits, as time is precious. With vocation, you and your soul are the priority — not your job. You shape your path and forge your destiny, rather than acting as a passive participant in your life. When you have the courage to connect deeply with your soul, the universe will collaborate with you to successfully support your mission. This is exemplified in Hebrew by the words matara (purpose) and matar (rain), which share the same root letters. When you connect with your soul’s purpose, the universe will shower its blessings upon you.

Your entrepreneurial gifts reside deep within you and are readily accessible once you are willing to start dating your soul. Just like many of you, I used to have a nine-to-five job that paid well and gave me security and comfort — but I was deeply unhappy. I chose to shift from occupation to vocation, to romancing my soul and celebrating my life’s purpose.

5 Ways to Begin Finding Your Life Purpose

  1. Sit in silence daily. Your purpose cannot be heard over the noise of everyday life. Even 10 minutes of meditation each morning creates space for your soul to speak.
  2. Notice what lights you up. What topics do you lose track of time exploring? What gifts do others always thank you for? These are clues your soul is leaving for you.
  3. Journal your way to clarity. Write freely every morning — no editing, no judgment. Ask yourself: “If I had no fear and no financial pressure, what would I be doing with my life?”
  4. Release what no longer serves you. Often we cannot find our purpose because we are still living someone else’s expectations. Let go of who you were told to be, so who you truly are can emerge.
  5. Ask for divine guidance. Use this prayer daily: “Higher Self, show me my purpose. Show me where to go. Show me what to do. I am ready to receive.”
